Casing is the wood molding that surrounds a door, or window opening, on the flat inside walls of a home. It covers both the edge of the drywall or plaster, and the edge of the jamb, giving the finished look to your opening. Our casings are available in the ten standard styles and sizes below. See our base moldings for complementary styles to these casing styles. Casing is normally ordered in the lengths that you need, since you normally would not splice together pieces for the length needed, except in cases where an extra long length is needed.Casing is defined as the trim around a window or door. The case molding surrounds the door or window opening, concealing the gap between the edges of the drywall and the frame (jamb). Casing is yet another example of the influence of architecture from the Greek and Roman period, with the casing representing the columns.

Casing is manufactured in a variety of materials, wood, plastic polymers, and medium-density-fiberboard or MDF for short. Wood still accounts for about two-thirds of the overall market, but the other plastic and composite materials do have a place in some applications.

Besides deciding the material type, you will also need to select the sizes and profile to be used. Keep in mind that the style and proportion of the casing that you select, will not only have a large impact on your door and window openings, but also on the overall appearance of your home. The moldings below are normally available up to 12' lengths. On lengths 14'-16', there is a 25% penalty on shipping by truck due to length.
